One nice phrase from Krishnamurti. It was ripped from the documentary of "Bruce Lee - A Warrior's Journey" (a very good one I'd say).
Unfortunately it's in german, but here is the transcript:

Lee was especially fascinated from the mind set of Krishnamurti,
who says that you can only discover truth by yourself - and not learn it from others.

"You have to be a light to yourself ... and not follow the light of your professor, the psychiatrist, psychologist or the light of Jesus or the light of the Buddha.
You have to be a light to yourself in a world thats utterly becoming dark."

* What he is saying is instead of looking for so-called "guru's", "rabbi's" "immam's" etc and ancient books to follow, have the courage to face yourself alone without all these escapes and distractions. Observe your every thought and action, your feelings, tempers, angers, lonliness, doubts - face these head on and you will be surprised by the results. Once fully observed and understood they begin to uncondition your mind and set you free. But YOU have to do it - nobody else!

* The first to teach and say "Be a light unto yourself" was the Buddha. It doesn't diminish my love for Krishnamurti that he isn't being original here. It is a great service to teach this basic tenet. Basically it means to me to watch and discover the illusions of my own mind and the truths of my own heart with as bright of light and as often as possible. much love and peace!

* Krishnamurti,he was an Indian philosopher,not a guru.He's most famous saying was "Truth is a pathless land".He invited you to find out for yourself what is truth and not to rely on somebody else authority or knoweledge."Be a light to yourself"
